What do you do with self-love quotes and affirmations?
I’ve been hand lettering since 2016 and the very first thing I learned was how powerful words can be. When you are making beautiful words beautiful, the words can kind of become true in your life. Here are a few ideas of what you can do with self-love quotes and affirmations to bring them into your life:
- Say them out loud to yourself.
- Write them down.
- Hand letter them and make them beautiful.
- Add them to your journal.
- Print them out and tape them on your mirror.
Want to start a hand lettering journal?
I have a hand lettering journal where I use my hand lettering as self-care. I use calligraphy and hand lettering as a way to unwind and destress. I use it as a way to work through big emotions, whether that’s happy or sad. My favorite journal to use is from Archer and Olive (use code: “ensigninsights” to save, this is my affiliate link).
My hand lettering journal is full of quotes. Sometimes I spend 5 minutes on a quote and sometimes I spend 3 days on a quote. I like to find quotes that are applicable to my life each day. I find quotes in books or podcasts I’m listening to. And even in songs or movies. I have a running list of quotes that I love so I can always go back to them when I need some quote inspiration.
As for affirmations, a lot of the time I just sit down and think, “what do I need to hear right now?” That’s how I come up with affirmations. I think about what I would want a friend to tell me. And in that way, I’m improving my positive self-talk and becoming my own best friend. It’s been amazing!
My hand lettering journal started in a place of desperation and has become a huge part of my life. If you want to learn more and start your own, you can join the Lettering Library and get monthly journal challenges. You won’t have to question what to letter and you can start using hand lettering to become the best version of yourself.
If you don’t know how to hand letter, that’s ok! There are lots of freebies and resources in the Lettering Library. I can’t wait to see you there!
Loving the direction you are taking your handlettering…thanks for letting us come along on this journey with you! I just bought your book and started learning hand lettering in January because I’ve wanted to do something with all the quotes I collect, lol, so a journal is right up my alley too!
Hi Kathy! I’m so glad you are excited about the journal too! And yes, I think collecting quotes it’s a hobby on its own. 🙂 It’s great to have a journal to hold all of them and write them out by hand and make them beautiful!
I just wanted to say I am so grateful to God for you Sarah! Before your journal challenges I loved letterering (which I only started doing in 2020), but I didn’t know how to be creative with it because that part doesn’t come easy to me. Now I look forward to it in a way I didn’t before bc I’m trying to learn new layouts and tricks from your videos but also trying to find own style. I love what you are doing with the monthly lettering challenge and look forward to all you will do. I also pray that God blesses you and your family in all you do! ❤
Thank you Erin! That means so much to hear! I agree that there is something special about having a tangible book with your lettering. Before that there are almost too many possibilities that it makes it overwhelming! But having a lettering journal has been such a blessing to me as well. I’m glad you agree! Thank you so much for your kind words! I am really excited and passionate about all the things coming!!
Absolutely love this!
Thank you so much!
Hi Sarah, I have also started a collection of markers, pens & just bought a sample journal as I am just beginning. I used to be a doodler but also writing letters and designing my own style, so I enjoy your videos and love your colorful quotes and messages.
I’m so glad you are getting started in lettering! It sounds like it’s just the thing for you! Thanks for being here!
