10 August Hand Lettering Styles to Engage in Learning
Remember that feeling of anticipating the first day of school? Even for those of us no longer in that season of life, it’s hard to forget that it’s that time of year again! In honor of going back to school, this month’s theme is learning!
I love learning. And I love that we can always continue to learn. Especially today – the world is at our fingertips! We can literally learn anything we want from the comfort of our homes. Anyone else love diving into one subject and then changing your mind a few weeks later to start diving into something else? Or maybe you’re the kind of person who likes learning about several different topics at a time. It’s amazing what we can learn from books, podcasts, or Youtube. Including so much about hand lettering! What a beautiful thing!

How To Have Fun Learning Hand Lettering
Have you ever looked at someone else’s amazing hand lettering and thought, I’ll never be able to do that? Sometimes the distance between where we are and where we want to be can feel impossibly large. What do you do when that’s the case?
I like choosing this route: Make it fun! If I’m going to traverse that distance, I might as well enjoy the journey.
And here’s a little spoiler: In my experience, there isn’t really a magic destination where you arrive at knowing or being able to do everything. Often the more you learn, the more you realize how much there is to learn. Or you discover new topics and skills and nuances that give you a new direction and destination to aim for.
If you’re not convinced that making it fun is a good idea, have you ever watched how quickly a child can learn something that feels fun for them? And how long and unsuccessful that same learning can be if they just don’t want to do it? Making things fun for ourselves not only allows us to enjoy the journey, but can even make our progress go faster! So for today, simply enjoy the curiosity and lean into what feels fun to learn.
Now pull out your favorite pens and journal and have fun learning something new this August!
